Teaching Leadership

Text that reads 'my mission' in cursive font on a brushstroke background.

I work to democratize digital creativity by mobilizing accessible design technologies so that students and teachers can realize their creative potential and narrativize their knowledge, passion, and impact dynamically and intentionally across digital platforms.

My faculty development work lies at the intersection of digital literacy, instructional leadership, & career management.

As a specialist in digital composition and instructional storytelling, I help educators craft intentional, values-driven teaching narratives that resonate across academic and digital spaces. I am especially interested in professional development that empowers educators to use technology creatively, communicate the story of their teaching, and approach their careers with greater intentionality.

How did I get here?

My investment in faculty development and instructional coaching emerged during my time as Associate Director of Undergraduate Teaching in the Department of English at IUB. In this role, I trained and supported graduate student and post-doctoral instructors teaching digital composition and intensive writing courses and preparing for the job market.

While serving as a Mentor Gardener in IU’s Digital Gardener Faculty Fellows program, I began facilitating regular invited sessions on developing portfolio websites. This work, in addition to the scholarly teaching programming and resources I co-developed with my colleague Miranda Rodak, led to the creation of Branding Your Teaching Excellence, a faculty development framework that drives much of my service supporting teaching excellence on campus and beyond.

How does my work in the classroom intersect with my faculty development work?

Branding Your Teaching Excellence

A Bit on BYTE :

I am the co-founder & co-creator of BYTE, a faculty development initiative serving current & future teaching professionals nationwide.

At BYTE, we believe teaching excellence deserves more than checklists—it deserves strategic storytelling, evidence-driven reflection, and authentic professional alignment. As longtime educators and faculty developers, we’ve built BYTE to help teaching-focused professionals articulate and advance their distinctive brand of teaching excellence in ways that elevate and support their career.

What Faculty are Saying

  • "As an early career faculty, the resources you provided today is invaluable to me, and will shape how I approach the next few years of my career heading to promotion. It feels like you have given me a game plan to strategically structure my teaching and service opportunities. I will take the branding tips seriously; I think it is so important to share a little of all the work we do as educators!"

  • "“I learned a lot of very applicable next steps for gathering evidence of my teaching excellence. I work very hard to ensure I apply my values in the classroom, and I now feel like I am able to get evidence and use it to advocate for myself. Although I love that my students get to experience it in my classroom, knowing that those outside (my administrators/colleagues) will know of the things I'm working on will feel great and maybe even spread what I do into other classrooms.”

    BYTE Series Participant (Fall 2025)

  • "Even after having taken a practicum class, teaching excellence still was a foggy concept to me. I've been trained in and apply active learning, prioritize students as humans first, emphasize that it's okay if they don't know something, they're here to learn, if they already knew it they wouldn't be in my class. But this workshop really made the connection for me for how to market myself and really show off all the work I've done."

  • "Branding is everything, and holy crap — you can brand your teaching too! This framework helped create a holistic view of my career, beyond just teaching excellence, to research and market my other skills as well."
