Teaching

  • I design curricula and active learning environments that centralize technology to democratize digital creativity and empower students as both creative producers and critical thinkers.

  • I have taught interdisciplinary writing, literature, and honors courses at Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Georgia.

  • I have participated as a faculty fellow in several initiatives focused on integrating creativity, digital literacy, and career competencies into undergraduate education.

  • I believe that the ways we drive and develop our students’ essential literacy skills — whether creative, digital, or linguistic — matter now more than ever.

Course Spotlights

What Students Are Saying

  • "This class was truly one of the best experiences I've had at IU. In every single class, Professor Woodward didn't fail to show her passion for teaching, always with a smile on her face, which one might think doesn't make a difference, but it truly makes a huge impact. As someone whose first language isn't English, I found the course very welcoming and easy to follow. Also, the way the word–count requirements were spread evenly across the semester was something I really appreciated, it kept the workload feeling steady rather than stressful. Classes were built around conversation and peer discussion, which made each class feel alive and engaging rather than just another hour in front of a screen. Professor Woodward might be the best professor I've encountered at IU, and I say that as someone who isn't even an English major."

  • "I absolutely LOVED this course. Not only was this course truly helpful but Dr. Stecher was the most kind, understanding, passionate and caring professor I’ve ever had. Her class promoted so much personal growth for me and my writing; that was only possible because of her excellent instruction. Her instruction was the best I’ve ever had. Her course was so interesting, and educational; she made a course that I wasn’t sure I would love fun and easy. Dr. Stecher if you see this (thank you SO much). We need more teachers like you!"

  • "You made every class super engaging in discussion, and you came in each day with enthusiasm, energy, and positivity. Genuinely, you have been one of my favorite professors. You do not cold call on students or put pressure on engagement, but instead, welcome honest thoughts. You have such a magnetic personality and light up the room. You make learning fun and meaningful. I can tell you love what you do so much, so never lose that passion! You made the class comfortable and were always supportive and approachable. You were meant to be a teacher. Thank you for a great semester."

  • "My favorite thing about Professor Woodward is that she literally never failed to speak about any assignment or anything we were doing in class perfectly. I don't understand how it is humanly possible for someone to be that thorough but I guess that is what the PhD is for. Overall she is one of my favorite professors or teachers I have ever had in my entire life."

  • "Professor Woodward is so well spoken and articulate, so the lecture portions of her class are always intellectually engaging and interesting. She is very welcoming and encourages everyone to speak up and share their thoughts in a way that boosts confidence. She always has a well–thought–out response to whatever ideas are raised in class and is really skilled at building on other people's thoughts, which not only adds depth and credibility to what they say but also introduces new ideas I haven't considered. Also, every lecture includes an activity of some sort that gets us talking to the people around us rather than just lecturing, which I love. Overall, I love taking courses with her she's an awesome professor!"

  • "Prof. Woodward is truly one of the best professors I've had at IU (and I'm a senior). Her passion for writing , reading/books, and teaching is so clear. I have come to really look up to her. She inspires me to think more critically, analyze the media I consume, and has helped me make connections across academic disciplines. I wish I had taken her class sooner, bc I would have taken more English classes!"

  • "Dr. Woodward was phenomenal, top to bottom. She loves poetry and it is seen with how she teaches this course. She does so much to make it enjoyable, and despite feeling forced to take this class for an IW credit I am leaving feeling like this course was an elective that I would love to take again."

ENG-L205 | Intro to Poetry Student

  • "I feel like the instructor very effectively communicated and achieved course goals, and I also feel that it was done in a personal and unique way to her teaching style not like it was just copied and pasted from another source. I felt motivated to do the work and participate.”
